Fireproof forest region

This was submitted to the site earlier this year. It is not quite Engrish, but I don’t get it – can you possibly have a fireproof forest?

Don’t know much of Chinese, but from my knowledge of Chinese characters used in Japanese, the original of this “Fireproof Forest Region” says “Forestries Fire Protection Area” or something like that.
I laughed at “Beijing Badaling”.
And what’s inflammable then? The sign itself?
I think the “fireproof forest” part means more like “fire prevention”, so “Practice Fire Prevention: Forest Area”.
As for “inflammable”, it just means something can burn. Here in the States, the prefix “in-” often denotes the negative: “inexcusable”, “inconceivable”. That’s a problem with “inflammable”, so you’ll usually see it without the prefix. Not that the word “inflame” should be a factor or anything…
I understand Chinese. After I read the sign, I believe it wanted to say
“fire-resistant forest”. I can’t find the exact term in English, but the so-called “fire-resistant forest” actually means, deliberatey plant a forest with trees that are relatively difficult to burn, so that in case there is a wildfire, the “fire-resistant forest” would slow down the wildfire.
And for the second line “inflammable”, it actually wanted to say “no fire is allowed”.

The Comic Sans at the top of the sign is all I can think about now.
I’m guessing they meant to say you can’t start a fire in the forest.
When you come to think about it this is still Engrish enough to be considered Engrish
I’m a Chinese and I think it actually counts as Engrish, because what’s printed in Chinese doesn’t tally with the English. First line should be as Mista Bob Dobalina said it: forest fire protection area. Second line means fire/flame strictly prohibited.
I think the ‘engrish’ part is that the sign is contradicting itself. Inflammable means very flammable, not fireproof.

It is fireproof because FIRE IS IN A SAFE HAND.

I think they mean fireprone, not fireproof.
