Shanghai seeks end to ‘Chinglish’
According to a new recycled article from the BBC, Shanghai wants to spruce up its image and clean up all the Chinglish around town in time for the World Expo Fair. Sounds like Shanghai is taking a cue from Beijing and the Olympics in 2008.

Just last year Beijing announced to the world that they would tackle all the Engrish in the land in time for the Olympics. Loyal fans of Engrish.com cowered in fear as the mass media in the west ate up all the press releases and regurgitated it as the end of all Chinglish. China even banned Engrish.com from their filtered down version of the ‘internet’ (yup, you cannot find Engrish.com through the Great Firewall of China).
I wasn’t scared though - I knew better. In fact last year was the best year ever for Chinglish submissions to the site - especially after the Olympics were over. Sure, they’ll clean up a few public signs here and there, but with a billion non-native English speakers, I’ll take my chances that Chinglish is alive and well for the long haul.
We’ll probably see more of these types of articles pop poop up here and there. Don’t buy into the hype, because that is all it is - just another title to try and get your attention.
Thank you for you.

You must be out of date. I had no problem accessing Engrish.com when I was in Beijing last week.
Actually, I’m on this website right now. I live in China.
That is great! I received a lot of emails from people late last year (and earlier this year) that the site was not accessible from China. Maybe they are being more lenient - or could it be part of their Chinglish eradication plan?
Hmmm… eradication plan? Webmaster, You should keep your eyes open…
