    Perhaps previous, more mildly-worded signs didn’t work….

“rogamos” is a Spanish word that translates literally to “we pray” or “we implore”. Out of the context of religion– when it is used in phrases like “ruega por nosotros” (pray for us)– it isn’t seen very often.

^ “Rogar” does in fact mean “beg” in the literal sense. “rezar” is the literal for “pray”, and phrases of religious sense like “rezamos por ti” (“we pray for you”) are much more commonly used.

I’ve never heard “rezar” used in Mexican Spanish. Perhaps it’s a European or South American usage.

I swear–my underwear just FELL into the toilet…

Not Engrish at all. The sign is a good translation of the Spanish. It maybe sounds strange but I’ve seen travel books that recommend doing laundry in sinks and toilets.

Yeah it’s not engrish. When people travel like backpacking through Europe, and they stay at hostels it’s common for them to wash their clothes in the bathroom sinks (rarely on toilets though) In spanish it says something like We ask the customers please not to wash their clothes in our facilities.
