Egyptian Engrish

posted on 2 Mar 2009 in Almost Engrish

A reader in Egypt sent this in quite a while back – I will quote his email here:

“I’d like to share with you the following pictures taken from a folding pack of Kleenex in Cairo, Egypt. The first picture below, taken from the front of the pack, shows the usual schmaltzy stuff you find in this part of the world. No big surprise.

“More puzzling, however, is the little cartoon bubble near the cute blue bear on the back of the pack:

“I’m not sure whether it’s an honest mistake or a devastating ploy to shatter the self-esteem of paper tissue users. But it is very funny.”

Thanks to Issandr El Amrani for the photos and email.

It’s good to know english while the people you work for don’t. That’s probably how most questionable engrish gets made. writers knowing more than their company, or for that matter most people, and taking advantage of that to get their designs out in the street.

Well yeah, it’s stimulating the consumer to use more of the product.
“Aawwll, you feel sad? Well keep crying, cause you’ll never amount to anything!”

This would make a good Engrish Store product, not sure if it should be a shirt or a sticker… Very good find! Super funny.
